Our garden in the paper!

Throughout our years here in Scranton I've made up ridiculous headlines to entertain Matt. They start out "South Side Man..." or "Scranton Woman..." and end in rather unfortunate circumstances. It's FINALLY my turn to get a real headline that starts out just like that! And I am so fortunate that it ends with "applies artistic ability to garden"! Instead of, you know, "is found, bottle in hand, passed out under a rosebush." Thanks to Patrice and Butch for a great article and photos.

Nice article! I actually let out a bit of a laugh when I saw the "South Scranton Woman" intro in print.

The newspaper article was very nice. This looks like a very nice garden. I noticed that you are growing strawberries. I also have been growing strawberries for the last 5 years at my home in Scranton. I had a question about the strawberries that I thought you might be able to answer. I have been told that strawberries will only last for 5 years. I have been told that after 5 years one must start over again when planting strawberries. Is this true; I thought you might be able to answer this question. I would appreciate hearing from you. Once again that was a nice article in the Scranton paper.

Thanks friends! Regarding the strawberries... I think the idea of replacing strawberries after a few years is more for commercial growers. Each season, they set runners which make new plants - when those are established, I thin out some of the old, woody, less productive plants. Make sure they're not crowded, keep them weeded, give them compost and mulch (straw is good), and they should sustain for many years.
