Argiope, where are you?

Last October I took these pictures of an Argiope trifasciata, or banded garden spider, in my irises. Every morning, now that it's late summer, I look for this year's argiope, but I haven't found it yet. There are many other spiders in my garden, and I love them all, even the Giant Clothesline Spider who each night builds a net for catching Zoes in, and who each morning catches a Zoe.

The first two pictures are the back, and the third picture is the belly.

I haven't seen any of these here yet this year. I usually see at least a few in the fall, and they're very unmistakable! I had to laugh at your Zoe catching spider, I have a Clare catching spider up near the apiary (that also seems to catch a few of our bees too). I'm always amazed how quickly they rebuild their webs!

Ours just showed up! Maybe yours will too. We got a clothesline spider this weekend too, and it was so giant and hairy and like drifting toward the house on a thread of silk, turning 8 or 10 eyes down on the smallest housecat, that i had to catch it and make it go live in the barnyard.
