Golden-podded peas

I resisted planting these golden-podded snow peas for years because I thought "golden" was a nice way of saying "a pukey pale sick color, which peas should never be." But then one day I had a fit along the lines of... This whole world and my entire life are completely out of control! And my decrepit old dog is pooping everywhere! And it seemed like the only thing I was in charge of was my overflowing seed storage, so I cleaned that. And I said to hell with it, I'll stick these stupid peas in the ground. And aren't I glad I did, now? Yes.

They are beautiful. I used to have a cocker spaniel named Peavine. She was a good dog and left me when she was 15. I hope to see her again someday.

Old dogs go on and on. When they finally go, the new puppy you get will also do unspeakable things everywhere. The time they have in between is worth all that, though. Your peas are not a bit sickly looking. Wouldn't they be pretty in a stir-fry?

Very pretty. How do they taste?

We have a decrepit ancient cat that is puking everywhere...maybe I should resort to sorting out my seed collection too! ;) I actually think those golden pods are very pretty!

The peas taste very good - sweet and crisp.

Thanks to all for encouragement in the old pet department. Cleaning up after Laika is a small price to pay for her friendship all these years.

Zoe, I just discovered your blog and it is a delight. I love it! And I am also a lover of peas, the vegetable, the vine, the flower. It's so darn hot here in Central TX that I have a very very short window of opportunity to grow them. Your photos are wonderful, too, by the way
