Making pizza from scratch

Golden August afternoons sure do seem a world away, now that we're into the weather where the laundry freezes stiff like cardboard cutouts on the clothesline. This picture, one of my favorites of the summer, went unposted at the time. In the background, those are my tireless companions, always eager to shift the toil from the garden to the kitchen. First we fixed their dog food. Then we fixed my pizza.

Your companions seem to be looking back toward the basket as if they're wondering if they'll get any fresh pizza! I love making fresh pizza from garden ingredients. We have a cornmeal pizza crust we make in the summer. The dough is stiff enough to hold up to your juiciest tomatoes without getting the soggies, and perfect for grilling the pizza too without slumping through the grill grate. Now I miss summer, and it's not even officially winter yet! ;)

At least your companions don't help themselves to the home-made pizza, like some short but capable dogs who shall remain nameless.
