Just kidding. Yesterday, Matt found this caterpillar on our hike. It is Antheraea polyphemus (I had some ID help from a professional). If it hurries up and pupates for the long winter, it will turn into a beautiful, brown giant silk moth in the spring.

How beautiful! Such a contrast from the brown it will become. It is odd really how its color is so boldly green at a time when green is disappearing. ;>)

At the risk of jumping on the bandwagon: the color is superb. I've never seen that caterpillar but I'd like to.
I'm so jealous! I haven't found any polyphemus this year (we usually raise them if we get the chance). They're such a cool moth. :)
