Ziar breadseed poppy
It's the time of year when avalanches happen in my pantry. In shoveling out the debris, I find some summer forgottens... We grew a short little row of these Ziar breadseed poppies (Papaver somniferum, or opium poppy), which are available from Fedco. This past week on my birthday, Matt put a few spoonfuls of our harvest into a batch of heavenly lemon-poppy-seed cream scones.

How beautiful! And what a nice birthday treat too. Your Mom's poppies have found a happy home here and are coming up like crazy.
I Love that idea.......okay, now send me some:)
Wow...those seed pods and seeds are a thing of beauty!
Beautiful flowers and impressive seed heads too! Even that bee looks happy. The scones sound scrumptious...Mmmm!
Wow those are some huge seedpods! So beautiful and tasty too. I tried growing breadseed poppy once but was not quick enough - birds got all the seeds before me.
fantastic!
amazing-- beautiful , deep blue seeds-- I love poppies.
I'm growing this variety this year and found your blog when searching for photos of what the blooms will look like. Thanks for the photos.
